Assets in Jira issues and JQL

The Assets panel appears in the right column of every Jira issue, in Jira Software and Jira Service Management projects. Agents see the devices involved without leaving the ticket.

Issue IT-1042: the linked MacBook and the reporter's other three assets, each with a Link quick action.

What the panel shows

SectionContents
Linked assetsAssets linked to this issue, with tag, name, status and assignee
Reporter's other assetsAssets checked out to the issue's reporter that are not linked yet, each with a Link action

The panel scrolls inside a compact area, so long lists don't push the rest of the issue down.

Actions

Managers and Admins can act from the panel:

  • Link asset opens a search by tag, name or serial.
  • ⋯ → Open opens the asset record.
  • ⋯ → Unlink removes the link.
  • ⋯ → Check out to reporter hands an available asset to the issue's reporter.
  • ⋯ → Check in returns an asset that is checked out.
  • Link next to a reporter's asset links it in one click.
Link asset to IT-1042: search, then select Link. Already-linked assets show Linked.

If the asset doesn't exist yet, select Create asset in AssetPilot in the dialog.

Read-only and empty states

Viewers see Ask an AssetPilot manager to link or check out assets.

Search linked assets with JQL

When you link an asset, AssetPilot writes the asset's id and tag to the assetpilot issue property. Jira indexes it, so you can search for every issue that involves an asset:

issue.property[assetpilot].tags = "AP-00042"
Linking writes one issue property. Everything else in Jira can then use it.

Use the query in filters, boards, dashboards and automation rules. For example, build a filter of every ticket ever raised about one laptop before you decide to replace it.

AssetPilot writes only this property. It never edits issue fields, comments, workflows or projects. See Permissions.

Uninstalling

The property stays on issues after uninstall. See Data and privacy to remove it.
